DISADVANTAGES OF USING ANTIRETROVIRAL DRUGS.
There are number of bad side effects of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) that also depends with an individual body type and the level of hiv infection. The behaviour and side effects of antiretroviral drugs, ARVs, varies significantly and may be aggrevated by patient's nutrition as well as other health conditions.
There are several measures and directions that can be taken inorder to reduce ARVs side effects or delay some of the side effects of hiv drugs. The most effective and recommended way of delaying or reducing HIV drugs side effects is to timely start medication. Note that medication with antiretroviral drugs should begin when the the CD4 cells are highly attacked ( indicator of hiv infection is reduction in the amount of CD4 cells) and the victim begin to feel weak and is now prone to other opportunistic diseases. Some hiv drugs side effects can be reduced or stopped by taking drugs that can counter attack specific ARV side effect, for example in cases where diarrhoea caused by antiretroviral drugs, it would be appropriate to take diastop or anti-diarrhoea drugs and electrolyte replacing drugs, pain killers to treat headache caused by intake of ARV drugs, One of the most common side effect of antiretroviral drugs is increase in weight as a result of deposition of fats in the adipose tissue especially in the back and abdomen area, there for it has been proved that hiv drugs fatten resulting to other highly dangerous side effects that are highly fatal and lead to chronic illness such as diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension are a few side effects of hiv drugs. In order to reduce accumulation of fat as a result of hiv drugs it is of much important for hiv patient to engage in some physical exercises, and thats plays a key role in ensuring hiv drugs side effects are minimised.
How to reduce side effects of hiv drugs also depends with the individual genetic make-up and life style. For example a group of people taking ARVs will have skin allergy caused by hiv drugs while others even after years of taking hiv drugs will never experience skin allergy associated to hiv drugs. HIV-AIDS smokers doubles the risk of experiencing hiv drugs side effects than non smokers. There are many limitations of hiv drugs / antiretrovirals. Lactating hiv mothers are advised not to breast feed for this does not only increase the chances of passing infection to the baby but also prevents the hiv mother ingesting hiv drugs from passing on the side effects associated with antiretroviral drugs to the new born, children taking ARVs also do experience same or worse side effects of ARVs as adults. Treatment and management of hiv aids child should be closely monitored since needs for hiv aids child are many and delicate.
